Pre-Production Concept : Renault-Samsung Shows SM7

After a teaser sketch last month, the Korean subsidiary Renault Samsung SM7 concept launched at the Seoul Motor Show. Basically, this is a design study of pre-production preview of the next generation flagship model of Renault Samsung, the SM7.

Production version is planned to be introduced in South Korea in the second half in place of the current SM7, which is based on the aging Nissan J31 platform (also used by Asian Nissan Teana and Maxima Nissan North America). The new SM7, however, will be based on the platform SM5 lengthwise.

D-segment sedan has been developed in cooperation with Renault-Nissan Alliance. The SM7 is a modern concept of line with the front dominated by large trapezoidal grille, hood-shaped LED lights glared and tears granules. Profile of the car features the third lateral window, the elements are also found in SM7 today. Rear has two large oval exhaust, but the most striking pieces is a thin boomerang shaped rear lights are united by a very long third brake lights.

Although the car premiered in Seoul, there are no interior pictures available and technical information that is lost as well. Samsung SM7 will compete in the Korean market to Hyundai and Kia Grandeur K7.

Renault currently sells in Europe Latitude, which is a rebadged SM5. When Latitude was launched, the company stressed that it is not a substitute VelSatis. This makes us wonder whether the French company can bring SM7 to Europe and badges as VelSatis or Safrane.
